VAWK LAUNCHING SISTER COLLECTION VAWKKIN

January 26th, 2012

TORONTO, January 26, 2012—It’s full steam ahead for Canadian luxury label VAWK by Founder and Creative Director Sunny Fong as the brand announces the launch of VAWKKIN, a line of women’s wear essentials that maintain the design and aesthetic VAWK is known for. The announcement comes hot off successful showings at LG Fashion Week and a great deal of recent media attention after actress Elisha Cuthbert donned a VAWK gown at the People’s Choice Awards in mid-January, the latter receiving nods from FLARE Magazine’s “Top 10 Best Dressed” list, People.com and Marie Claire UK, among other international media outlets.

VAWKKIN suggests the relationship between the two brands. Since inception in 2004, VAWK has seen steady growth in the luxury market. In continuing that same momentum, Fong wanted to create a line that alludes to the past while also pointing towards the future. He notes “I was looking for a name that showed a relationship with the original label, the designs and pieces that people have fallen in love with. But I also knew the name needed to imply that there is more to come for the VAWK family of brands.”

Tailored toward the young professional fashion forward female, VAWKKIN is an accessible line at a more inclusive price point with essentials that blend from the office to after work cocktails. “This is just the next step in growing the VAWK brand,” said Fong on the creation of the new label, “the main thing about creating VAWKKIN is that even though the price point is more attainable, it still has the same design philosophy as VAWK, but for everyday wear.”

VAWKKIN consists of pieces that transition seamlessly from day to night, available in blacks and neutrals; another reference to the original line. In introducing the new line to the industry, a preview of the VAWKKIN Fall/Winter 2012 collection will be available to market this spring.

CHATTING WITH ELISHA CUTHBERT

January 16th, 2012

.

In collaboration for the People’s Choice awards, VAWK sat down with Elisha Cuthbert to get her take on style and choosing looks for the everyday and the red carpet. We couldn’t resist asking a few more probing questions about her wardrobe, shopping habits and favourite style icon. Check out an excerpt from our conversation with Elisha.

I looked at a few of the VAWK pieces and fell in love with the gold detailing on this dress, I knew I wanted to wear it.

.

VAWK: What do you look for when shopping for everyday wear or selecting a look for the red carpet?

EC: Being a Canadian girl, I tend to shop fairly seasonally. I must say I am not a huge shopper, so when I need a new coat or a pair of boots that is usually when I will hit the stores. I like trends, but I wouldn’t say I follow them. When selecting a look for an event or the red carpet, I tend to go for simplicity with an element of surprise. I prefer simple over extremely daring. The fit is usually what is most important to me, I could find the most beautiful dress, but if it doesn’t fit properly it often ruins the look. When it came to selecting my look for the People’s Choice Awards, I looked at a few of the VAWK pieces and fell in love with the gold detailing on this dress, I knew I wanted to wear it.

VAWK: You have worn VAWK before, what is it about the label that appeals to you?

EC: Having a relationship with a designer is a luxury. It makes the selection process and the look special-for both of us. That said, it isn’t just our history that makes wearing VAWK special. Sunny is great at creating beautiful dresses that are classic but have a modern edge to them. Whenever I see his work I always notice a wow factor. The design elements really showcase distinct detailing and the pieces he creates always fit perfectly. I love the cuts!

VAWK: Who would you consider a style icon?

EC: Definitely Cate Blanchet. I always love the designers she chooses and she wears everything so well.

VAWK: What is one piece in your wardrobe that you wouldn’t be able to live without?

EC: I could live without all of them. (LOL) Several years ago I bought a scarf by Dries Van Noten not knowing who he was, but the detailing and beautiful Indian beading really caught my attention. I would say that that is probably one of my favourite purchases.
