With the launch of our sister label VAWKKIN rapidly approaching, the VAWK team wanted to rollout our new project in an exciting way.  VAWKKIN transitions seamlessly from work to the weekend. Since this line was designed with you in mind, we thought: Why not let you be the VAWKKIN woman and the first to wear it on the runway?

VAWKKIN is looking for women who would be thrilled to be a part of World MasterCard Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2012 in Toronto.

  1. Are you available on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 from 1:00pm and two additional days (prior to the show) for fittings and rehearsals?
  2. Are you 18 years of age or older?
  3. Are high heels your favorite accessory?
  4. Are you taller than 5 ft 6? (Without heels)
  5. As always, VAWK celebrates diversity on the runway, do you range from size 2 to size 8, preferably? Curvy girls welcome! (Size 10 to 12)
  6. Are you the most confident and outgoing in your group of girlfriends?  (Keep in mind you will be strutting your stuff in front of hundreds of people including national media outlets)
  7. Are you constantly being told you are photogenic?
  8. Do you believe in benevolence? (This is strictly a volunteer opportunity, but who knows it could get you discovered!)

NOTE: Any contestants currently represented by an agency will not be paid according to any rate card or receive any fees.

If you answered yes to all of the above VAWKKIN wants to hear from you!

Please email including your measurements (height, waist, bust, hips, dress size, shoe size) and two recent snapshots of yourself- one full length and one head shot and why you think you are a VAWKKIN woman.

Submissions close on Sunday, February 26 at 5:00p.m.

Only those selected for the casting will be contacted. If you receive notice for the casting call, interviews will be held on March 5, 2012 from 6p.m. to 9 p.m.  For those selected you must also be available for runway boot camp with Liis Windischmann, Agency Director of Ben Barry Agency the evening of Wednesday, March 7, 2012 and Sunday, March 11, 2012 in the afternoon. Fittings will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2012.  Casting details will be provided by email. (*times subject to change)

VAWK draws inspiration from insects and architecture in latest collection, designer Sunny Fong presents VAWK Spring/Summer 2012 at LG Fashion Week

Luxury women’s wear, VAWK presents its latest collection, INSECTICA Spring/Summer 2012, Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 9:30 p.m. Creative Designer Sunny Fong creates synergy between the structural framework of modern skyscrapers, and the beauty of insects. This marks Fong’s second on-site presentation with LG Fashion Week.

“I wanted to incorporate style and structure from two seemingly different worlds, I was inspired by the organic curves and sharp lines of various insects and those of modern architecture,” said Fong of his latest collection.

The collection exemplifies a feminine palette consisting of washed out tones in blush and seafoam and the use of symmetrical and asymmetrical lines. Fong, in his fifth collection since Project Runway Canada, continues to play with texture and silhouettes as well as colours, reflecting elements found in nature and paying homage to notable architects like Frank Gehry and Mies van der Rohe.

Always keeping consumers in mind, Fong notes that, “I always think of the VAWK women when I design, I listen to consumer feedback and try to incorporate that in the collection, this season it’s a return to dresses.”

Building on the growth and success of the line, now in its third season, VAWK has launched pre-season capsule collections; Resort 2012 hits the floor at The Room at the Bay Queen Street, Toronto, this December.

This is our third season collaborating with DJ Jeremy Khamkeo for the sound of our runway presentation. His ability to create a beat that always adds bounce to your step is seen from the models’ runway strut to the front row’s tapping feet. As usual, from what we heard backstage, the music couldn’t get any louder, which we loved because you can’t feel the music if you can’t hear the beat. We loved it, the models loved it, and so did the audience (with rave reviews on twitter). Now you can enjoy the sound of the VAWK runway for yourself. And it’s okay, get up and strut to the beat. We do it at the studio all the time.

Our runway show is only the end result of a long series of events. Inspiration, design, samples, casting, invitations, seating charts, show production and hair and make-up all need to happen before the models hit the runway. In this post, we share the excitement behind the runway during the final hours leading up to show time captured by our photographer Spencer Xiong.

On Thursday March 31, we presented our AW11 collection, Lhasa Row, on the runway at LG Fashion Week in Toronto. The packed house of over 1000 media, industry and consumers saw our collection of outerwear and dresses inspired by the menswear silhouette of Savile Row and texture of a Himalayan mountain climber.
