Spencer Xiong is a Toronto-based portrait and event photographer and designer. Born in China, a gift of an SLR camera by his father at age sixteen confirmed his passion in photography and the creative field. Experience as both a designer and photographer provides a unique and powerful perspective that is founded in balanced parts of aesthetic, design and inspiration. Spencer holds an honours degree in Design from York University and has also graduated from the Digital Multimedia Arts program at Seneca College. He is the recipient of the Harlequin Award for Book Design and the Applied Arts for Editorial Design.

Marta LeClair and Monika Sammut are the sister design duo behind MARLU, Toronto’s up and coming day-to-evening jewellery line. Based in Toronto, MARLU draws inspiration from an all-inclusive prerogative to look and feel fabulous capitalizing on a modern, feminine sophistication of eye-catching style.
We collaborated with MARLU to create signature runway pieces that draw on the textures and silhouettes of this season’s collection. Marta is not a stranger to the VAWK family having played an integral role in the creative stages of all of VAWK’s previous collections that is why we didn’t hesitate to team up with the talented and incomparable sisters. We’re certain that MARLU will bring a fresh element to our clothing while remaining faithful to the inherent spirit and integrity of VAWK.

For the second season, we are thrilled to be working with the multi-talented Tricia Campbell Hall (Ford Artists) as our show stylist. Tricia coordinates the pieces – the shoes, accessories, and garments – to create the perfect look for each outfit. Educated in visual arts and fashion design at George Brown, she has extensive experience working with both commercial and editorial clients. She has worked with HSBC, The Bay, Canadian Tire, and Zellers and is currently a regular contributing Fashion Editor for FILLER Magazine. She also enjoys expressing her creativity through photography, poetry, knitting, and her must-read blog

We are excited to announce hair by Salon Daniel for our Fall/Winter 2010 show. Born and raised in France from Italian parents, Daniel Fiorio has lived in Toronto for over 30 years. His hair artistry has been published in leading fashion magazines, including British Vogue, Flare, and Canadian Living. His hands have coiffed stars like Eugene Levy, Sarah Polley and Cindy Lauper. Daniel and his team have provide hair services for many high profile fashion events, including the Hugo Boss Fashion Show for Sick Kids, Toronto Fashion Incubator and Elle Magazine New Labels show, and the upcoming Oscar De La Renta fashion show presented by Suzanne Rogers.

Hailing from Vancouver, Jeremy Khamkeo is one of the most innovative talents on the Canadian DJ scene and has cemented a reputation as a DJ not to miss. He has performed at the PRISM Festival during Toronto Pride alongside world-renowned talent, including Hector Fonseca, Juanjo Martin & Isaac Escalante, as well as at Divers/Cité festival in Montreal with Yinon Yahel and David Morales.
He regularly burns up the decks as resident DJ at Fly Nightclub and Straight Boutique. Music is Jeremy’s passion; he says spinning a perfect set is based in deciding how and when to place both cutting-edge tracks and seasoned crowd favorites to create that special moment of Goosebumps on the dance floor. We cannot wait to experience the energy, momentum, and atmosphere that his talent and passion will bring to our Fall/Winter 2010 show.

VAWK is committed to featuring models that reflect the variety of our consumers’ ages and body types in our fashion shows and campaigns. We want our consumer to see herself in VAWK, to authentically imagine how beautiful she will look in our collections. For our fall/winter 2010 show, we have been searching for a mature woman with gray or white hair. This task, however, is more difficult than one might expect because most modeling agencies do not represent models over age 30 – let alone over 50. 
We have thus taken to our online social network, with multiple Twitter posts and Facebook status updates, to ask for referrals for such a woman. Editors, photographers, and stylists sent us some exciting recommendations and a few tenacious women, who despite never walking a runway before, submitted themselves. We are currently meeting these fantastic ladies to see who would best represent VAWK on the runway and showcase our fall/winter 2010 collection. Here are two of the fantastic ladies we met in our studio last week.
