SCI-FI SAMURAI Autumn/Winter 2012

Tuesday, March 20th, 2012

Presenting his Autumn/Winter 2012 collection inspired by Samurais and Science Fiction, Sunny Fong sent VAWK women down the runway in leather space-caps with Samurai-style hair and 1960’s mod-inspired eyes on contoured faces.

The collection featured ready-to-wear pieces including coats adorned with leather and fox detailing, Samurai inspired jackets in black silk as well as cocktail and floor length dresses in plum silk and copper sequins fusing both Samurai and Science Fiction influences to create a powerful yet elegant collection.

This season marked the debut of our sister collection VAWKKIN where we held a casting call to have everyday women be the first to wear the collection on the runway.  Our special thanks to the over 100 women who applied and an even bigger thank you to the 16 women selected.

VAWK to preview ‘Sci-Fi Samurai Autumn/Winter 2012’, and debut sister collection VAWKKIN at World MasterCard Fashion Week

Tuesday, February 28th, 2012

TORONTO, February 27, 2012—Canadian luxury women’s wear label VAWK proudly presents ‘Sci-Fi Samurai Autumn/Winter 2012’ on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 4:00p.m. at David Pecaut Square. The collection marks Creative Director, Sunny Fong’s third on-site installation and partnership with the Fashion Design Council of Canada for Toronto Fashion Week.

‘Sci-Fi Samurai’ explores the idea of “the uniform” in Japanese culture and science fiction. The two themes have been woven together and modernized through cut, tailoring and detailing in what Fong calls a capsule collection. “I wanted to get back to what I started with, a detailed, extremely focused collection. I didn’t want to dilute the collection with quantity; I wanted to make sure each piece was special and perfect in my eyes.” The ready-to-wear collection consists of dresses, jackets and key outwear all masterfully handcrafted with the attention to detail synonymous with the label.

This season also marks the debut of the new sister collection, VAWKKIN, to immediately follow the VAWK showing. Inspired by menswear with feminine touches and targeting the young professional female, the new collection consists of versatile pieces for work or the weekend at a more attainable price point. On his reasoning behind the line Fong notes, “I wanted to design pieces for this collection that would build a wardrobe. The demand for a more accessible line has been around since I re-launched VAWK; I really listen to feed back from those who love my work. This collection was designed with them in mind.”

Not only did Fong have his customers in mind when designing the new line, he wanted them to be involved in the launch. The VAWKKIN team launched a casting call for everyday women to be the first to wear the collection; those selected will be seen on the runway at Wednesday’s debut of the line. The women selected will be coached by Liis Windischmann, Agency Diector, in partnership with the Ben Barry Agency.

VAWK is sold exclusively at The Room at the Bay Queen Street, Toronto.
